I played the Japanese one back when it came out and it did suck pretty bad.
did the storyline or the gameplay suck? or maybe both.Originally Posted by Breath of Fire

From what i can gather the problem with the game is its too easy and theres not much to it, you get more powerful weapons and the ability to fire "magic" shots powered by materia from your guns and even the ability to transform into a beast (limit break similiar to FFVII) but the reviewer said the game pretty much aims automatically and your basic gun is powerful enough to beat the whole story mode with.
So basically you just run through levels and press fire.
I don't know about you but sometimes thats all i feel like doing...
Either way i'll be hiring and checking it out.
Storyline was.. OK and the gameplay sucked.
Mhm, that sounds boring.
Is there any way to fix that difficulty-problems? Like turn off the autoaim option or sth? Well, I dont think, that gamespot ignored those, but some "cheat" or hidden options, by playing it through perhaps.
the game play isnt that bad at all, when you use a mouse/keyboard, turn off auto aim and its like playing a PC FPS, its pretty good imo.
I have seen it but not played cant wait to play.
I think it's pretty fun.
Critics say it is too easy... so play on hard mode; problem solved.
The FMV graphics are comparable to Advent Children which is sweet. In game graphics aren't bad either.
The plot so far seems pretty compelling. It's cool that they pretty much made it a standalone story from FF7 or Advent Children such that you can get into this without having seen/played the other two (not that they were bad or anything, but it's nice seeing some new stuff in the same world).
I had no idea you could play this with a mouse and keyboard, i'll have to give that a try. Playing with a controller isn't too bad though. Aiming is assisted so I don't feel cheated like I do with console FPS games, but it is not like metroid prime or devil man cry where it is just lock on and shoot. Melee kinda sucks, as i always end up missing the enemy and destroying air.
The weapons customization system is kinda cool to give a little change of pace. Resource management(ammo, potions, etc) can get a bit stressful since you access the menus in real time (the game does not pause). It's annoying at first but you get used to it. They also made the American version harder by limiting the maximum number of certain items, like potions, so you can't just win by hoarding items. The main thing they did to make me like this game way more than devil man cry is allowing you to gain exp/gil, even if you die. When i died in devil man cry, i wanted to throw my controller out the window as it meant that i just wasted the last 40 minutes of my life. The exp is not all that game changing, but it still feels like you are making a slight bit of progress every time you play.
I have not beaten the game yet, but so far I will give it thumbs up as it has been pretty entertaining thus far.
Vincent is cool in this game and you can see that Square Enix put a lot of time into the FMVs as mentioned before
but imho I don't like the gameplay, if you have played games like Devil May Cry or Omnimusha before you won't probably like this (my opinion)
