Danger of using backups in a slim PS2? –
I've heard people talking about it wearing out your laser more quickly. I have a V15a (Slim Black PS2). Is it to the point where I should really be concerned, or will my PS2 just not last quite as long as I'd hope for it to? I use high quality media (Verbatim).
Edit: One other question. Is there any sort of preventative maintenance I can do, or should I just wait and fix it if my laser fails?
There is no dangers of playing backups in your v15a. The lasers for these units are cheap to replace. Not like the FAT PS2 at all.
I have a V14 thats been playing backups for 2 years straight now and no issues.
You can use a can of air to spray under the fliptop, I usually spray the laser and underneath to keep the dust out about every 2 weeks or at least once a month.
If you try to use DVD-RW or DVD+RW on your PS2 , then yes they are hard on the laser.
