I'm trying to fix this V7 PS2 that a customer attempted to mod but failed miserably and after cleaning up all of the solder bridges it's still acting a little strange. There are quite a bit of missing board components, one being a capacitor near the big CD/DVD controller chip and a lifted pad above the "B" point (from a Duo diagram). I've already replaced the capacitor from a junk board and I connected the corresponding chip leg to the alternate point on the back of the board.
I managed to get it to boot up and it seems to behave normally until I insert a DVD-based game, which it then begins to spin at an incredible rate. The weird part is it only does this with DVDs/DVD-Rs and not CDs or CD-Rs. I'm pretty sure there aren't any more solder bridges left, but I am getting some continuity between certain legs (around 40ohms resistance). I also checked the plug for the drive cables and they seem to be in good shape.
Anybody have any idea on what might be wrong?
