Hey guys I remember seeing a thread about this sometime ago but couldn't find it. I don't remember anyone ever finding the actual conversion method and I just came across this. I don't know how legit it is for I don't have the parts to test it out. This could be very helpful to some if it checks out though...Could it really be that simple?

Awsome! I think you mean the C Sony closed face, to the R Sanyo open face though. Either way you were successful. Atleast now we have a way to get around the annoying problem of proper laser fitting. I assume this works in reverse too.
    Great news

I mixed up C and R as quicksticks pointed out. I have corrected it in my post.

Ok, I just experience something totally strange.

After I move the capacitor, as outlined on the page, the electron balls stopped swirling. I removed the battery, etc, but I could not get them to start working again even after I set the clock and waited for the time to start counting.

So to troubleshoot this, I moved the capacitor back to it's original location and the closed face laser still works!!! I wonder if the board really was meant to have a closed face laser instead of an open one.

    Weird.

GH-019 does not have those components, i've looked around that area for a possible solution, but don't see any.

I think the conversion is a one way conversion from R type laser to C type laser. The board I had originally had an R type laser, so I was able to move the component.
