This thread helped, until I actually got down to the desoldering. In the process I got a tad too hasty with what I thought was sheilding and ruined a pad. Fortunately I had a spare board but the problem still exists which suggests the diode wasn't the problem. I'm looking at the ribbon, it's utter trash. I had to poke and prod at it to get it to work. At some point theres a break and it happens to work when formed certain ways. Anyone wish to confirm that this is probably the issue?

Both ports will power the analog light but will only allow for movement when pressed further to a certain point. If this is the problem I'd like to buy a new ribbon. Yeh it may sound utterly stupid I even have to ask but I'm really low on cash and would prefer not to spend money if I don't have to.

This is a v4 btw. 30001R without the screw.

i had the same problem the time passed and nothing worked both controllers and both memory and it was solved changing a fuse since the guy who did it told me it happened because you connected a non-original ps/ps2 controller

There aren't any fuses on the controller board that I saw. At least in diode form. On the main ps2 mobo there might be but the v4 mobo diagrams don't label most of them and they've all tested fine. I just won't be using it for much then.
