No. Those games are actually developed by other companies, though NIS America may be involved in their translation (I don't have the facts on that) and definitely handles their distribution in the US. But the japanese NIS company had nothing to do with their design.
You really ought to try them, since the real NIS SRPG games differ radically from most other offerings in the same niche. For one thing, levelling up really takes on new dimensions when the top level is 9999 rather than the usual 99. And in several of these games every single object you find, even simple edibles like chewing gum (their equivalent of potions) contains a dungeon world of its own with up to 100 dungeon levels... And exploring those dungeons also levels up the items, improving their stats (though items thus have the old cap of max level 100).I never played them for real(I'm playing other games now and I'm waiting for Mana Khemia 2)
The graphics of these games is quite laughably old fashioned, and all of that could just as well have been implemented in a PS1 game (most even in a SNES game), but that is beside the point. Because in these games everything revolves around tactical management and the development and levelling of custom characters and items.
That is also one reason for the large gamesave sizes, since two items of identical type, size and level may still have differing individual characteristics. So every single item requires separate storage, unlike most other RPGs where separate storage is just needed for each item type, with a simple count value used to handle multiple items of the same type.

oh lol i forgot if i'd recommend anything its "Nyko 32MB Memory Card"
i have an Nyko MC for psx (double type: x2) and for ps2, it splited into 4x8MB (i don't know if its the right term to describe it) partitions.
you basically click the button on the mc and switch between them,
compatible with everything so far due to 8MB size i guess,
and can be great for dev1 multi booting, i didn't try to install fmcb from different regions yet, as i just got my hand on a v5 pal console without a power/reset button.
but if it will work i'll have 2 fmcb installs in one card for different regions, in different partitions![]()

This card worked when I had two different FMCB (same region) installs on different partitions. What you have to do is turn the PS2 on, (it defaults to the first partition/page on boot), then change to the page to the one with the other FMCB install on it and do a quick reset.
lol just curious, why would you need a 2 FMCB install for the same region?

The chinese cards are often known to be incompatible with Free MC Boot. so i would steer clear of them.
Other cards tend to work, but have the following problems.
1) They tend not to work when plugged into multitaps. SO double multitap games are out of the question (this usually means football games)
2) Some games get confused if they ever see free space greater than 8 megs.
3) they tend to be slower than official cards.
4) some games get confused if there is not already a save present
5) a few rare games just do not work at all.
Testing multiple versions of FMCB (in the very early stages even) and also testing which older version PS2 could use the normal install with the newer 75k BIOS, as well as my many custom FREEMCB.CNF files on the multiple versions.
I was helping discover some of the characters that displayed in the PS2 OSDSYS also.
I just get jazzed when I find out I can do new things with hardware I already had. I remember when I first got a working "Freevast" card working from jimmi's first released instructions, quite a rush! Geek out alert![]()
For me the more slower MC i have is the MAXMEM 64 (MEM+ 64 too), it's 4 times longer than the official ! I have also a 128 chinese MC and it work fine, more speed, more compatible and huge space !
BUT the probleme is sometimes they aren't detected ! Why ? I don't know and i don't understand !

I have memor 32 (the one with usb connection support). It works great, but i have never used the memor32 apps/usb connection. I only used fmcb. I totally regret it, becouse it costet ALOT MORE then the chinese cards.
I have used the memory cards from ***********.com! They are cheap and works like a charm. I have the 8, 32 and 64 versions. All work with fmcb. I could get 15 X 8 mb cards for the price of 1 memor32!
but good luck hunting :0)
I'm thinking about that Nyko thing and the other 65MB from ***********.com
