changing button layout in Fight Night Round 2

AM i missing something here? I can change the button layout and it will work fine in career mode (config 5) but when i want to play a 2 player game or a quick fight, it reverts back to the default "punch control" layout even though my player is loaded with the saved settings. Can you only change it in the career mode? ANy help is much appreciated!

when you push your controller to swith from red or blue corner you can also push up and down and it will change config
