To get it off, I have before, cut the legs very close to the chip and very carefully with a dremel, and then just removed the little legs left with a hot iron, took my time and was careful.

Possibly not the best way to do it, but it worked.

    Good luck.

A Dremel on electronics?! Hmm, Couldn't you just lift the pins up one by one? with like an exacto knife?

It doesn't work to well with taking one of another board and trying to use that one, but it really isn't so bad as long as you are careful, and hey, I was desperate.

There is a device called solder pump (looks like a metal seringe but has a spring that pulls the piston). I put a little silicone rubber tip on it (better contact and heat resistent). I heat the solder points and that I use the pump to suck the solder. After that remains so little solder that a light heat on the pad takes off the leg.

Another method good for lifting pins is a full metal hypodermic needle, I put it on the tip of my soldering iron and after it heats I push it slowly against the pin until the flat part on the board is in the needle than I lift half a millimeter and voila, the pin is airborne. Of course that the needle needs to be shortened until the pipe has 5mm.
