Changing from 400B - 400C laser ?
Changing from 400B - 400C laser ? –
05-15-2005,12:43 PM
I have just installed a new 400C laser in a version 3 PAL ps2 after removing the old 400B laser which would not read dvds, and the new laser wont read dvds also ??
now i know from various posts that the 400c should work on a v3 or v4
I took it out and tried it in a v7 and it works fine.... so it cant be the laser...
any suggestions for what the problem might be ?

Humm, all my V1-V7 have 400c, working fine, no problem at all. This is U.S version, I am not sure about the PAL.

some say their is a desoldering of a point on the laser. check out a few post do a quick search.

yeh I know all about that, I have ordered another 400C laser and will test it with this new laser coming and post my results....
it does seem strange that a number of people on here have said they have swapped these lasers countless times and they all work, it may be because its PAL but I dont understand why it should work with NTSC and not PAL ?

I swapped a 400b with 400c in pal V3, same thing, wouldnt read dvd, adjusted dvd pot down a little works fine, I dont know if for some reason the v3 dont put out as much current to the laser so it needs less resistance or what and anyone correct me if Im wrong but different consoles with different lasers all seem to have a different resistance on thier laser pots, it worked for me, I only adjusted by about 80 ohms and then it worked fine and still going.

oh cheers for that,
it did cross my mind when I tested the resistance on a 400B laser and noticed it was lower than the 400C resistance but didnt know whether or not to try adjusting it.....

i am just in same prob atm .
got 2 v4 here , 2 different 400c lens .
both having dvd reading problems. ... 1 will read dvd after long time , other wont read dvd at all.
same lens working fine on a v5/6 400c type.
thought i did installed a new 400c on a v4 before and had no problems , all load just fine.
i see someone took resistence down , what down mean ? increase ? or decrease ? if resistence is 1000 now ??

By down I meant lower resistance, if 1000 now try 900

i myself tried to replace 400b at on v3 consoles with no success yet...
even when the 400c read dvdr it couldnt read from the edge bcoz v3 cd drive is lil bit diffrent built then other v4-10
i have here 2-3 v3 consoles that are in good shape... and i cant get my hands on a new good shape 400b lasers.. so i told the ppls to wait or to dump the consoles..
to my knowledge u cant place 400c lasers in v3 console and never saw such thing..
maybe if u can reprogram the eeprom with ps2lens changer u might get lucky and it'll work else i have only bad news for u.

If you look at a B and C laser you will notice that its only different where the laser hits the switch on the tray. You can just superglue some hard plastic and extend the C laser so it looks like B.
