My latest and greatest work! Windowed top and bottom, with a 9" neon in the vent, and a 3" by the heatsink. Also there's a nice window in the DVD drive to see the disc spinning. Got a DMS3 in this bad boy as well.

my v5 ps2 is a bit modded.. it's got internal ir and also 2 blue leds in the fan grille.. i've been skeptical about adding a window to it cause i think it kinda ruins the look of it abit.. i like the way you have the inverters at the back showing through the window..

    Hi ben999,
Where did you get the 3' neon, and also, can you power it from the USB port (5V) or do you use an external power source?
Last thing, about the heat, does the neon produce any heat at all?
    Thanks for these infos,

    Alcahest

The neons might produce a bit of heat, but I don't think it's really an issue. I got the neons at the local auto parts store, Advance Auto Parts or something like that. You grab power straight from the power supply, where you can get 12v. Here's a diagram...

"I have case modded my Playstation 2 as of July 2002, therefore being the first to do a PS2 case mod to my knowledge, and certainly the most elaborate as of yet."

Umm ok I know quit a few people that did some pretty awsome modz to there ps2 like the day after the ps2 was released.

Also IMO the huge windows looks stupid. should do something a little more elabrate like cut a tribal design in the top with some plexy behind it. Just about anyone can cut a gigantic window in the top.

It was nicely done i just don't think much thought went into it. plus from the pics it looks like one of the neons is in the expansion bay. should of placed the neon somewhere else so the hdd is still useable.

But other then that good job.

Just about anyone can? Think again. Notice I also said that to my knowledge I was the first to case mod the PS2. Give me evidence of prior modding by someone else, and by all means I will recognize. Your word means nothing without proof. Usually no one does awesome mods to a $300 system they just bought the day before. Plenty of thought went into this, and engraving is tough do without a router or machine to do it. Who uses the hard drive bay anyways? I know I won't be, and neither was the guy who paid me to mod his ps2. Other than that, good critique .

Watcha all got against windows? I think they look good. I'm building an LED system right now so the network adapter spot will still usable.

Looks great. I could have used LED's too, but neons/cathodes are easier and brighter. I figure I may as well use them when I can. LED's are more suited for tight spots.

Check into LED's again. They make them in normal, bright and super bright ($7 per) but it's true they are in fact 'super bright'. I had three bare blue LED's going last night and it was bright enough to light a 10'x10' room. Not like daylight or anything but impressively bright none the less
