If the connector on the motherboard is broken, chances are you need a new motherboard. You may be able to find someone who is brave enough to try and attach a new one or modify it by soldering indivdual wires to reconnect it. Sounds like this guy messed up your ps2 pretty bad. If he is really your friend, I think he should help you pay to get it fixed the right way.
