I have a PS2 with the plastic pieces and swap discs, but one of the swap discs is now scratched. I would love to get a good deal on a modded PS2 if anyone has one or knows where I could get one. Google is not helping find one.

you can always go for fmcb
http://psx-scene.com/forums/f153/%5B...mcb-you-58851/ free installation, read post.
I second that. Save your money for something else. If you have a slim model you might want to invest in an old fat model (usually $20-40), a network adapter($10-15) and a hard drive (a good one for around $50). You'll get a lot more use out of being able to play games off a hard drive. That would be the only way I would buy another PS2. If you want to try the free route with your existing hardware, then FreeMcBoot will work nice for you
I don't understand what fmcb is. All I can tell is that it goes onto a memory card.
Will fmcb allow me to play other region games?
Free McBoot is a memory card exploit which allows you to run homebrew apps. If you have fat PS2, you can buy network adapter and HDD (as mentioned above) to run games off HDD, then.
Also, if you're good with soldering, you can get Modbo modchip for $4,30 and install it on your own, that way you can run burned and other region games (together with color fix so you don't have to worry about PAL/NTSC).
I've burned one of my jap games and played it on my fat ps2 using ESR, so yea you can play games from other region
FMCB is great. With it and a few other homebrew programs, you can do everything that most modchips do including running homebrew and back up copies of games you own. It should be fairly easy to install with swap magic disks. The one draw back may be that it doesn't work for all ps2's but it does work for most, so you may need to look at compatability issues if you have a slim ps2. If you do want to invest a little money, a fat ps2 with a hard drive is the way to go. Nothing beats choosing a game from a list instead of finding a disk that might get scratched.
What sucks about the PS2 scene is that the mod chips are getting less and less. As in availability.
and whats great about the psx scene is that you dont need a modchip anymore... FMCB and all the apps available mean you dont need a mod chip or a laser in the PS2 to play all the great games and emulators that this wonderful scene has provided for most of us that cant code or have the time to do it..
also with the new installer 1.8c you can take your softmodded MC to almost any console in the world and start playing backups etc
