Buying a Jap. Ps2

I'd like to buy a japenese ps2, I need some info... here it is
If I buy a japenese ps2, will I need a chip to play my ntsc/US ps2 games, both are NTSC games... Will the os be in japonese?

Yes it will need a mochip or other method to play US games, as they would be of a different region than the system. I believe the menus will be in Japanese by default but have an English option in them somewhere. At least I remember reading about how to set it to English when they first came out and people were importing them before the US launch. If the option is still there or not, I don't know.
