Okay, I went and f'ed up my fan connector. My fault for not being very gentle and ripping the thing right off the board. It's is a pain in the ass trying to solder that thing back on the board so I figure I can just strip the fan wires and solder those straight to the board. Any idea which wires go where? I appreciate the help! :)

Pictures would help, but I think I understand what you are saying. You could probably strip the wires and solder them to the board, but then your fan will be hanging off the board all the time if you need to keep messing with it. It would be permanantly attached and may not be easy to work with after that point. Also, if you solder it in the same position it was in before, you won't be able to get the metal shield off since the wire goes through that opening in the shield.
I don't know what the underside of that connection looks like on the board, (cause I never ripped mine off :) ). But you can probably make two short wires and solder them to the board, then solder them to your broken part (the fan conector). Then plug the fan end back into the connector. This way you can still unplug the fan from the connector if necessary. I would just be sure that you properly insulate the wires cause you don't want them touching the metal shield I imagine.
I'm no pro, but that's probably what I'd do if I were in your shoes.

I personally would persist with trying to solder the connector back on! shouldn't be to hard... Have seen the 4 way connectors for the laser on a PSX come off and they went on again easy enough.

Villasg, thank you so much for helping me out. But I am a tiny bit confused by the photo. Not exactly sure where to solder the wires and how? I think you're saying to solder one wire onto the chip that reads "30", but not quite sure. Thanks for your help!

Hey there. I recently had the same prob and fixed it really easily. Just solder the wires to the little pins coming off the connector in the front of it. In that first pic it's the pins below the connector. It fixed the prob for me. Later
Okay, I think I see what you're talking about.. one little problem is that when I pulled off the connector, the points stuck to the connector. Where they used to connect to on the board, there's a little bit of metal still left on the right leg. Where the left leg connected though, it's black. I think I pulled off whatever metal was there with it and also stripped some of the green material off from the board. so now it just looks black. I wish i had a digital camera to show you what I mean, but alas, I do not. :( Will soldering the wire to the black part still work? If not, any other ideas? Thanks..
