    Hey all!

I was at a game store today, game crazy, and I bought a pre-owned PS2. Some of you gave me some advice in my previous topic. I followed the advice. I found myself a PS2 version 7, model SCPH-39001. I also lucked out and got a monster cable S-video hookup for ps2 for $5 . Also picked up a sony memory card and FFX.
The PS2 system is cosmetically perfect, no scratches, dents or dings. Warrenty seal is intact. Only one problem I discovered tonight after booting it up, and playing a bit of FFX to test everything out. When I open the disc tray it makes a loud noise. But only when opening not when closing. Can someone please help me out ?? I went through a good amount of effort tracking this stuff down, and I want to make sure everything is up to code, to prevent problems in the future.

    Thanks Alot.

see if they will let you exchange it for another one, it soundslike just normal wear and tear, or something is out of place

They will definately let me exchange if i want to. I have 90 day warranty. After reading a couple older posts I had come to the conclusion that the lubricant on the drive rail (metal rail on the underside of the disc tray) has gone dry. I was experiencing absolutely NO other problems with this PS2, except for the annoying sound from the disc tray. I followed the advice of another member and used a small amount of vasaline on a q-tip to re-lubricate the drive rail, making sure not to use an excessive amount. Now the sound is gone, and the PS2 is functioning flawlessly, to my knowledge. Also, if anyone knows, Is there any kind of better or longer lasting lubricant to use for the drive rail?

You may have also come across in your readings, that people have recommended silicon grease. Something I'm yet to get my hands on as my PS2 has the exact same symptoms.
BTW, unless you can find another V7 quite easily then I wouldn't exchange the one you got there. Sounds like you got a real nice virgin V7 which comes pretty rare down here where I live. Have fun
    SCPH-39002 V7 with DUO2SE
    I'm hoping its a V7 but it might also be a V8

    Thanks everyone for the input!!

I hope this fix i am using works without problems. Ill keep an eye out for some silicon grease also.

Played FFX for 2 hours straight in 90 degrees weather, no wierd noises or such. Just the quiet hum of the fan.

Tested a couple of dvd movies in the drive. Although i wont be using it for dvd playback at all. No noises or anything, almost completely silent. Yet to test an original playstation game, but i will in the near future.

    Thanks again!
