Is there a way to boot DVDs instead of normal browser booting?
I hope you understand my question, as I don't really know how to describe this.

I have a Pal V3 with DMS3 and a new laser, but DVD booting is random and seldom. I figured if the laser recognizes the disc but most of the time stops reading and goes back to the browser, there has to be a problem somewhere.

I can't find a working solution for this problem, so I thought if there was some kind of alternative boot method that forces the ps2 to read, I would at least be able to play the DVD when I want, even if it is a little tedious.

Unfortunately the only boot cds I could find were for booting cds if you have no modchip, that's not what I need.

    Please help me!

your laser is starting to strugle

this is what you can do
First Clean your laser with compressed air
second clean the lens with some alcohol(becareful not to wet)

if those options not working you can try to adjust the cog(the white wheel in the back of the tray) a little bit clockwise always mark your start position with a Marker so that you can go back to the default setting

last but probably needed is to adjust the laser a little bit
if you remove your laser you can find to pots slightly open the dvd pot and for sure it will gonna start as brand new, But REMEMBER SLIGHTLY TO MUCH IS DEAD LASER.

if you don't understand the staps i wrote go to a GOOD installer and ask of he can adjust your lens,

thanks for your reply, but I did try every step you mentioned numerous times before.

I have a new laser that only reads when the ps2 is vertical but does not show any disc, just reads forever. That's a strange thing too.

Currently I'm using one of two older lasers I have, and this laser works like a charm for cds and original dvds, except when reading backups. It recognizes them and boots them, but shortly before the ps2 logo it goes back to the browser showing the disc. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R.

The laser obviously works and it's definitely not a bad burn as tests with other ps2s have shown, so is there a way to force the ps2 to read the disc correctly inside of a program?

Verbatim is a top quality brand. Verbatim even used TY a long time ago. Now they use something else but it's still very good.. pi rating of below 60 compared to the 100-120 of a ritek g4

    thanks for your replies.

The old lasers are 400b, but I have a new 400c laser hat only reads when the ps2 is vertical but does not show any disc, just reads forever.

Does anybody have a clue what's wrong with it? Can it be repaired?
