Does playing CD (or CDR) games a lot cause undue strain on the laser and cause it to malfunction sooner (disk read error) as compared to playing DVD (or DVDR) games?
Wondering if it's a bad idea to play old PS1 CD games on the PS2...

There are a few tutorials out there that will instruct you on how to clean your laser and adjust the pots on it, however from my experience it is only a very short term fix. More likely than not, you need a new laser. You can pick them up from sellers here on ps2-scene or on ebay. If you take your ps2 apart the model number of the laser will be on a sticker on the side of the laser. If you have an older ps2 like I do (v4) then your laser is probably a 400b and can be replaced with either a 400b or 400c (the better of the two) laser. If you have any other questions don't be afraid to ask.Originally Posted by Jericlone
No, not to my knowledge. But then again, I could be completely wrong.Originally Posted by jon_jon
