Blue Discs? –
02-19-2005,12:33 PM
Right first off I have a SCPH7003 ps2 V12 I think that is. It's only 2 months old & not modded at all in anyway.I just bought my son Star Wars - Super Bombad Racing. This is on a Blue bottomed CD which I understand to be just like a Normal Data CD not a DVD one.All the other Discs I have are all the Silver DVD type. Now I was just wondering If the Blue Discs spin faster or Run differently than the DVD ones because although the game works fine It just seems very loud and the console seems to be vibrating(rumbling) as the disc is spinning. Also once the disc boots up it sounds sort of like a Fan has just kicked in & is running.I've never had this happen with any of the DVD discs. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about & will it cause any damage to the console?
Regards
Raz

Different disks make the console sound different, and this is completely normal. CD (usually the blue ones) and DVD games (usually the silver ones) read and spin differently. So if it sounds a little funny to you, it's only becuase you aren't used to playing that type of disk. You have nothing to worry about.

Ah right appreciate the reply digitalFX
,I was kinda worried but I have only ever had DVD discs in the console, I guess if I played an Audio CD it may sound or spin similar to a Blue CD

Actually, CD audio should spin quite slow (1X). Also PS1 games should spin slow, I think there?s a speed setting in the PS1 driver but it doesn?t seem to do much anyway.
I remember the first time I had a PS2 and tried a Blue CD-ROM game, I thought it was going to self-destruct or something. It?s worse than playing those old Amiga 500?s, ? Click, Click, Chunk, Grrrrr? Click, Click, Grrrr, Snap? Ka-thunk, Ka-thunk, Grrrrrr, Grrrrr???. Try playing either of those machines in your bedroom, with your girlfriend trying to sleep!

to clarify.. blue ps2 cd's are Sony PS2 games that are on regular CD media. Sony PS2 games that are silver are DVD baesd games.
PS2 CD read speed = 24x
PS2 DVD read speed = 4x
so at 24x read its going to be louder. also the blue bottom cds are notorious for causing disc read errors.

thats a good question.. i have a feeling a blue cdr is going to have better readability. This is based on the fact that in my ps2 i can't play official sony cd based games, but if i burn it to cdr it plays fine.
