i just started backing up my ps2 games and normally have great success when playing them, however, i recently ran into the problem of larger game data discs that won't fit on the standard DVD's like Rogue Galaxy for the ps2. Since I am still fiarly new to backing up games, i was wondering if anyone could please explain to me (in laimen terms) how to back up such large discs. I have already wasted 2 dl discs on trying to figure it out on my own and the posts that i have read didn't really help me all that much. much thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I RAR'ed my ISO files of both GOW 1 and 2 in split archives. I set it to split off into another file every 100MB so that I can cram a number of the rar's on to one standard dvd, and the rest on another. This way I wouldn't waste dual layers on it.

I agree. The kind of non-playable backups mentioned above have a useful place too, but without the ability to make playable backups the other kind becomes meaningless.

I think that all methods will require using The 'Toxic Dual Layer patch', and the ESR method will of course need the ESR patch to be applied afterwards.

So my generic method description is this:

1: Use 'DVD Decrypter' to rip the original DL DVD game to an ISO file
2: Patch that ISO file with the 'Toxic Dual Layer patcher'
3: If intended for ESR booting, next patch that ISO with the ESR patcher
4: Burn the ISO file to a 'DVD-R DL' or 'DVD+R DL' disc using ImgBurn (or other reliable burn app)

NB: If using 'DVD+R DL', make sure to use booktype 'DVD-ROM' in the burner settings.

    Best regards: dlanor

alright all thanks for the info so far. as some have mentioned i have not supplied enough info so here it is. I use DVD Decrypter to rip the games to an ISO and then patch it with ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a (i'm still fairly new to the whole backup thing) and finally burn a dvd disc TDK DVD+R at 6x speed also with DVD Decrypter, which has worked for most of my games just not the ones that are bigger then 4.6GB. as far as the rest of the info goes... alright i admitt that i ain't that smart when it comes to this stuff so forgive me, i don't know what other info you need or how to find things out. just let me know what you would like to know and how to obtain the info and i will tell you all. thanks again

Just follow steps 1 - 4 like dlanor posted above, the way you say you have been backing up it seems you have missed step 2 out 'patch with Toxic OS Dual Layer Patcher'

    Hope this helps
