A mod chip or swap magic ? yes i kno theres 1 difference opening it up n swapping the cds, and opening the ps2, but is it better in quality or they the same??

get a no swap chip. once installed everything boots fine if u use a good chip. messiah2 dms3 are good chips, also pple here seem to like apple pros. depends on how much u wana spend and if u want extra features.

From a PS2-mod-newbie point of view, what is swap magic? Is it a boot disc (or something similar) that lets you play Import Ps2 games AND backups?

If so...does it involve damaging the Ps2 in any way?

I am asking this because I would like the ability to play imports and backups without giving up the option of online play (DNAS).

Is it even possible to do that without a mod chip?

u gotta open up ps2 with fliptop anyway. its a new case were the top opens to swap game. with a lil more effort u can just put in a chip. and swaping without a chip or flip top will increase likelyhood of damage to machine. also with fliptop has issues playing certain games eg rips. no method will allow online game play of dnas protected titles at this moment. a chip is the best logical choice.

Swap Magic doesn't work with all games...No Rips will play, and even some DVD-R will not play.
Your really just wasting your $ to go with Swap Magic cuz sooner or later you'll get a no swap chip.
