BA5815FM Help –
03-07-2005,06:57 PM
I bought a used PS2, which would not begin to spin the disc for around 45 seconds or so, and would ultimately lead with a disc read error.
I checked the laser coils, and discovered that the focus coil only gave me a reading of 1.3 ohms. I'm going to replace this 400c laser with an older, yet perfectly healthy 400b laser. I will perform the homebrew fix to make this (smaller) laser hit the trip switch.
My question is was my original laser just a blown laser in general, or is my BA5185FM chip blown, which caused my laser to die on me. If it is, I want to replace it before I install the healthy laser.
I'm not quite sure how to test the BA chip on a v5 though. I know for the LA chips, you have to get a resistance reading between pin 8 and a ground. I did this on pin 8 of the BA chip and receive a reading of 19.36 k ohms. There was no connectivity however, because I did not hear the *beep*. Is my BA chip ok?
Also, there is another BA chip oin my board. The BA6664FM chip. Could this have caused the problem, and would I need to replace it. How do I tell if it is blown or not?
Thanks a million
Tony
