AR Max CD to DVD conversion help
AR Max CD to DVD conversion help –
Hi folks, hope some of you enlightened people can help me with a wee project of mine.
I've been trying (and, thusfar, failing) to make an Action Replay Max disc that is executable on a burned DVDr on an unmodified PS2 running an exploit and the program ESR. I've followed the tutorial for converting CD games to DVD, and the ESR side of things is OK, the disc is loaded fine*. However, the problem lies with AR Max.
All I get when AR Max is run is a red screen. I've figured out it doesn't like being part of a ISO/UDF format disc** (even after using DVD Scan on it), but that's it. Does anyone know if:
(a) how I can get AR Max to work as part of a ISO/UDF format disc; or
(b) I'm barking not only up the wrong tree, but I'm also in entirely the wrong forest as well?
* Verified by launching uLE instead of HDL and browsing cdfs before and after ESR use;
** Tested by creating two images of an unedited AR Max, one CD format, one DVD format, and loading these on to the HDD and running them. The CD format version works fine, however this won't work with ESR
I don't think it'll work cheat discs Action Replay and Xploder "called GameShark outside Europe" don't like being converted to DVD-V and will always display a red screen also when I tried launching a Xploder DVD-V with Swap Magic v3.8 it displayed the spinning disc icon with black screen as normal but had a flickering red boarder.
Have you tried using a packed Codebreaker v9.3 elf and making a custom SYSTEM.CNF into a DVD-V?
I believe you must patch the files to DVD, then rebuild with CDGENPS2 and burn it.
Ive burn a 1xx meg AR MAX EVO disc on DVD and it worked
I've acquired a DVD version of AR Max, and I can get this booted off of a burned DVD using ESR. All fine and dandy, except when I attempt to start a game, any game, the thing gets to "Launching game.." and sits there doing nothing.
I've tried the following combinations:
* ISO burned to DVD and launched using ESR
* ISO installed on HD and launched using HDLoader instead of ESR
* Edited ISO that loads HDLoader (in a similar vein as injecting the AR Max image into a game ISO); burned DVD & HD launch methods tried
* Edited ISO that loads uLE (same process as above); burned DVD & HD launch methods tried
* Modifying all CNFs to be the same version & VMODE (straw-clutching here methinks)
but in each case I get the same results, it freezes at "Launching game.." (whether or not I activate any codes) :/
Does anyone have any experience of AR Max doing this, and if so, found a workaround?
Additional info, if it helps: I'm using a fat PAL PS2 (SCPH-39003), and the AR Max DVD is the latest UK release from Cryptbreaker
What version does it says in the SYSTEM.CNF and does it have the media player & messenger? I could only find Action Replay 2 - V2.1, v2.23 & v2.34 JAP the latest version i've come across is v3.60

VER = 1.00 (American)
VMODE = NTSC
All the downloads http://cryptbreaker.vze.com/ seem to custom made jobs where they've added both the PAL and NTSC versions together along with the most recent codelists so we've got no chance of working out what files where on the original disc and there order.

Another wee update:
I've found another version of AR Max Evo that runs on DVD, it's a PAL version (the cryptbreaker US & UK versions were both NTSC) and, again, same results as before - it never gets past the "Launching game.." screen. I'm totally at a loss, and think I may have to admit defeat on this one.
Additional: I've tested a theory that ESR may in some way be interferring with AR Max (directly or indirectly), and this seems to be the case. I have tested my original AR Max disc, loaded with ESR and without ESR, and whenever ESR is used (mcard, dvdv direct, and dvdv direct off) it freezes at "Launching game..". This is where I think now this cause is lost, unless anyone has any further suggestions?
Sorry if I update an old thread, but I've got the same error.
So is it true that it is impossible to use a patched ESR action replay disc?
This is very strange as I have just done the same thing with an action replay disc. I rebuillt the ISO by patching the files, then converting to the proper ISO format and burning to a disc.
It's a bit glitchy, but the disc loads fine, although I have the same problem with it loading up a game. It freezes everytime in "launching game" sadly.
