Anyone able to help me?

I have a hard drive that I salvaged from my old xbox (yes, it is fully unlocked). According to the PS2 compatibility chart I found, it should work fine connected to my PS2.

BUT neither hdloader or hdadvance can detect the hard drive.

Whats more, I tried deleting the network configuration and reconfiguring it with the network adaptor disc, but whenever I try to set the network config it freezes up. I then tried to configure it with a copy of Everquest, and it again freezes up when I try to change the network settings.

I figured the adaptor was bad and bought another one off eBay - same deal.

So either I have two bad adaptors (odds? unknown) or the header that it connects to the PS2 on is bad.

Anyone know how I could test this? Also I couldn't find that part on any of the repair sites so likely I would need to replace the whole mobo?

Any ideas, please send them my way.

could be a blown fuse on your ps2's motherboard. can you find a buddy with a fat ps2 that will let you test your hdd with network adapter?

I'm going to ask around, that was my thought too, just wondered if maybe it was a common problem with the PS2 NA. I dont know if any of my friends still have a fat, I know my fiancee's sister has a slim which does me no good :-p

Also thought about asking gamestop if they have any fats in stock....buy it test it and return it if it doesnt help....doubt I'll find one at anything approaching a reasonable price tho :-/

You need to format your HDD with WIINHIIP to make it PS2 compatible. DJ

(You´re right,...)
But that still doesn´t explain, why his PS2 locks up on setting the NET-CONF.
I also think, it is a blown fuse on the mobo.

Ok, I'll try formatting it with Winhiip when I get home, I thought HDLoader was able to format the disk :-p

Yes, you can format an HDD on the PS2, using either HDLoader or uLaunchELF, but it's probably not a good idea to do that if you suspect that something is wrong with the network adaptor or with its connection to the PS2. Remember that this same connection also affects the entire IDE interface.
