Alternative power for PSTwo
Alternative power for PSTwo –
What's another adapter or way to power a PSTwo? For somebody that doesn't have the Sony adapter.
I believe find some kind of adapter with 8.5v and can fit itself in the plug then it would be fine, but I haven't seen one (not trying to find yet) with 8.5v, only 7.5v, 9v or something that step up +1.5v at a time
It may be a problem finding a 2 amp 7.5 V power adapter. If you’re handy with a soldering iron and happen to have some AT power supplies lying around you can probably hack one’s 12V line down to 7.5. Crack some open and look for a voltage adjustment POT, if the voltage doesn’t drop enough, tear the pot off and use a higher resistor. If you can’t find one with a POT, look for a resistor that comes off of a 12V-voltage regulator (those 3 leg thingamajigs bolted to a heatsink ) Fool around with higher resistors until you strike 7.5 volts or whatever voltage under 12 that you need. This will also affect the 5V line so you will end up with around 3.3 V on that line.
I have a variable Powersupply.. but it's only 1Amp.. i'm guess that won't run?
Nope, Actually I was thinking of the PSOne when I said 2 amp, donno what Pstwo’s are but they must be at least that much if not more. Be careful with adapters, most are unregulated, even the ones with voltage switches. IE, if they say 9V they will probably test around 12V with no load.
I have a multimeter, so testing is no problem. On the bottom of the PS2, it says "8.5V --- 5.3A" .. all the adapters at radioshack are 1000mA or less..
btw, the variable powersupply I have is like.. a real Electrical Engineering powersupply.. not a power adapter.
Wow, 5.3A. Yeah, if it was me, I?d definitely go with a PC power supply Mod. Depending on the PSU, many might not even be able to cut it at 5.3A from the 12v line!
it may be powerful enough then
