Hi all, first I would like to say, the new forums looks great!

Im in search for a newer PS2 (already got a V2) and I know a guy selling a used V7 that im interested. Im mainly buying it to mod it and to learn about modding ps2's which is why I got an old one to practice on and such.

Now my question is, I read a lot of threads on a few forums and noticed that alot of people have troubles modding version 7 ps2's only. Is it a coincidence or is this version bad for modding?

So I would like some feedback from the owners or modders who have worked on V7 ps2's and your thoughts on this specific version ps2. Will I run into problems if I buy this version? If not what chips have worked flawlessly on them?

    Thanks everyone

The V7 ans V5 are the easiest to mod in my opinion since they they dont require you to solder to the DVD legs, instead there are Pads on the back.

I think theres just more people with modded V7s since they were out when the modding thing really cought on and wasnt so underground. You can still find V7s on store shelves even thought they came out over a year ago.

Mods gone wrong are usualy due to the installer and a lot of them are afraid to admit it. Its important you have patience, the right knowledge and tools before you mess with these things.

    Good luck.

BTW- I wouldent waste your money on a used console. At $150 you can buy a new one (yes, you can find V7s in stores if you look for the model SCPH-39001) with a network adaptor, that is a smokin deal and it will last so much longer than any used console.

They still got a pallet of V7s in the combo packages at my local store. Id say at least 60 total. I try to urge all of my friends and customers to buy those. I havent had any troubles with V9 units, but why bother with them when the V7 is an all round nice conesole to have?

Good luck ddzc, if you need any advice on your install drop me a PM/email
