i was taking apart my ps2 today and accidently broke off the fan connector wire .. here is a picture ..

    http://img11.exs.cx/img11/9177/fanc.jpg

what can i do now ?

are there any points on the board where i can solder the fan connections to ?

here i took a picture of my v9 mobo showing the fan connector and the two points that ** i think ** connect to the fan wires ...

    http://img15.exs.cx/img15/9328/mobo3.jpg

now, assuming that those two points to the left of the fan connector are the correct ones to solder the fan wires onto, im not sure where the red goes and where the black goes .. here is another picture showing where ** i think ** the wires go .. please correct me if im wrong

    You are right...

With a multimeter you can check which solder pad is connected to ground, that's the one where the blackwire must be soldered to.

Exactly right. And I'd suggest knocking off the connector... it'll give you some more space to solder to. You also might want to add some wire length to the existing length you have... trying to solder through the top plate is doable, but tough. Adding a couple more inches will allow you to solder to the board without having the top plate in the way.

By the way, some excellent pics... makes troubleshooting so much easier. Nicely done.

    ive done that before lol

I dont know which is better because they can rip right out of the socket again..... and next time the connecter could get stuck in the mobo the you will have to solder them anyways

i tried to take out the wire that was stuck in the connector but the metal thingy inside also flung out and i cant find where it shot off to ... what i was thinking of doing was soldering 2 30awg wires to the pads on the board, then putting the metal case on top and then using electrical tape to conenct the 30awg wires to the wires from the fan ...

That's the hard way. You probably need some thin tips to do that. Just fix the male plug.
