Hello all...
Just been trying to pick up a V7 for customer and noted that a hell of a lot of department stores no longer even sell PS2's and those who do now only stock the dreaded V9...
kind of sucks cos the customer wants a premodded system which is hard to do when all you can find are the V9...
So how many chips can handle the V9 at the moment??
The mars chip II (M302) claims to be able to do them but I have yet to see an independent review confirming this...
Anyone here modded one of these successfully and wants to share their story?

Maybe all the modders bought all the v7 machines

i don't think i've seen these v9s here in brisbane.. where have you been checking SK? EB? K-Mart? Target? Myer? Toys 'R' Us? there's a hell of a lot more places that sell ps2s...

still to check K-Mart....
Myer had them for $299 but only the 50002 so when I saw that Toys 'R' Us had them for over $329 I left forgeting to check if they had the old versions still in stock - will have to check again tomorrow.
So far:
50002 only
Target $329
Myer $299
David Jones $329
Type unknown:
K-Mart $?
Toys 'R' Us $329
Stores that don't stock anymore:
Harris Scarfes
Stores from above that were completely sold out of all versions:
Target
David Jones
Harris Scarfes (wont be stocking them again)
so hmmm - hopefully Toys R Us has them as K-mart is a fair hike for me....

ShadowKnyght:
I've been doing some searching for info on mods that support the 50002, and here is what I've found so far.
Most sites have diagrams for up to V8 (with notes about DVD-r compatibility, which is important), even if they say they support V9 beforehand. Since there is significant changes to the V9 (no firewire, added progressive scan, etc) I doubt the V8 diagrams would be all that helpful.
The only specific case where I have seen a mod work on a 50002 is a certain aeroplane sounding chip (why does the name get replaced by stars??) where apparently the latest sw is compatible with the 50002... might be worth a look, even though they don't have any diagrams! There are some pics of the V9 mb around... I think I saw it has the 080 bios... might be worth investigating.
Edit: Also just found a site that has a "smartchip" (allegedly a clone) that says it supports V9:
http://www.evolutionmods.com/
But the numbers only go up to 39xxx so I dunno. Very annoying, eh?

ShadowKnyght: for $329 at Target? that's mad! i thought they were sold for $299 or somewhere around $297-99, unless you're looking for a ps2 with a free game!
look for an Electronic Boutique store near you, they're bound to have the older version ps2s, but while i was at target today it just totally slipped my mind to check the ps2s!

lol... cest la vie eh? Well I will have a look around here after work today, see what I can find... cross-fingers! Otherwise, if you happen to be able to get a hold of a mod with beta V9 support, eg offer to test it out for some mod company, I'll be more than willing to have my ps2 used as the test machine. I'll give you a call tonight and let you know how I go. Thanks
