50001 series, CD Eject button stopped working! Help!

Hey guys, its me ol trumpetguyscw.

I have a MAJOR problem. I have a v9 with a DMS3 for v9 in it. Just starting in college here, was enjoying my nice modded ps2 a LOT, playing lots of games on it, when all of a sudden one night when I turned it on, the CD tray started going absolutely WILD, going in and out rapidly. Then, I turned the power off on it, and turned it back on. However, the eject button no longer works, so I cannot eject the CD Drive in it! I am sending this ps2 to my trusty friend loy for repair if I can't fix it with just the ribbon cable being disconnected, but before I do, I was wondering which parts need to be replaced on it....is it just the ribbon cable disconnected (something I could repair), or is the ribbon cable probably broken, or is the LA6508 CD/DVD motor drive chip broken? I saw on Lik-Sang they listed it:

UPDATE:
After opening it up and slipping an original SOCOM II in it, I got a Disc Read Error. Any ideas? Please help thanks!

maybe the RST wire on the modchip has come loose ?

not a very good sign. umm lets see do cds work???

When I had the same symphtoms there were bridges or solder splashes on the controller and/or on the LA. Maybe a loosy wire causes this on the CDVD controller, or a solder splash somewhere on the board. It can be repaired, but it needs some time to examine. I suggest you send it loy for repair.

it does not read games, at least my SOCOM II original DVD. I slipped a copy of it in by opening up the top of the drive. Kinda spun up, but weakly, and it made a strange reading noise, like it was a crappy disc, but this is an original that is in very good condition? Loy PM me or e-mail me, alep85 at yahoo.com ,and lemme know about how much you would charge me if I shipped it to you and you would look at it and fix it. I would be willing to pay for any parts that you would need also. Let me know if anyone else knows what might be going on, thanks!

did you want me to test a CD also, loy? I can re-open it and slip one in if you need to know about CD games as well. I've figured out its hard without an Eject button, lol! Let me know, thanks!

OK, cool loy, will do, thanks again for all your great help. You are a great friend to have.

Also, another update. My friend slapped the front of it, and now it is reading the SOCOM Disc, lol. However, sometimes it sporadically stops reading it. Almost seems like there is a short somewhere, perhaps? Let me know what you think!
