Hello everybody, i have a v10 PS2, with a broken mother board, everything else is brand new and working fine, it didnt even get used, now i have a older v4 ps2, and it is getting "Disk Read Errors" this actually still has the warrenty sticker, cause it was never opened, i can replace the v10 laser into the v4 ? or i should just send it to sony ? i called them and they said they can repair it for free.
Thanks.

If they can repair it for free then by all means send it in. No use wasting time if they're willing to do it for you.

I did call Sony this morning for my free repair V4. It's not a problem even I told them I bought over 2 yrs ago. Remember the key words "Disc Read Error"

Why would you want to waste money and give that v4 the laser? I would send it to Sony so they would give me the free repair and sell that one laser.

used the working parts from the v3 and put them in the v4 but the console didn't work
I guess some version simply don't work together

Sony will repair an Old V4 Laser for free? If this is true, what do you get back? A V4 with a 400B laser again or something? after a 2 month wait, I?m sure. I?m sure they won?t repair the V10 broken board for free, if at all. I?d check the laser out in the V10 and see if it?s a 400C and if it was I would definitely try it out on the V4. You can always find a replacement 400B for less than $40 anyway, beats shipping away to sony and waiting, I think. Plus you could sell the broken 50K on ebay and get more than enough to buy a replacement V4 laser.

They replaced with 400C, then I modded them. I have done like 8 of them from V1 - V4. Took only a week for repair. They even repaired other problem and changed the bell, cd tray without charge.

what determines if you can get a free repair? how do they benefit in fixing the ps2 when they also sell the parts to repair? please someone let me know.

You need to pay shipping to sony but thats the only charge. Its better than nearly breaking your console to fix it yourself. It only takes a week to a month depending on the shipping and lead time. I hope this helps.
