$99 with v10 ?

In October there was a rumour about the PS2 going down to $99. Is it going to be reality with the new v10 motherboard? I believe Sony always try to reduce manufacturing costs and perhaps this was it?? Or this motherboard was just to make it harder for those of us chipping our PS2.... Anyone heard anything more in this matter? Thanks!

That rumor has been determined to be unfounded. Will Sony eventually come out with a cheap PSTwo like the PSOne? Almost definitely. However there has been no indication that Sony is planning this for the v10. Right now Sony is dominating the market so thoroughly that there is no reason for them to effect a price drop. I am sure Sony is waiting to see how the PS2 compares with the sales of other consoles for the Christmas season. If it continues to perform well, don't expect another price drop for a long time. If Sony gets creamed by Nintendo and/or Microsoft, there's a good chance they will drop price to $150 or $99 during Spring.

what about the one sony playstation that is a ps2 or ps3 but they say its not and was more of a entertainment center when is that coming out. its called sony playstation i hope you understand what i am asking sounds a little confusing.

you mean the sony psx, and that has nothing to do with the pricing of the ps2 seeing as it isnt even made by the same division of the company, plus it'll never be manufactured or purchased in any quantities to compete with the ps2. which would be the only reason for a pricedrop with the psx as the cause.

the ps2 is NOT going to be dropping directly to $99 without hitting $149 first. it simply isnt gonna happen for a number of reasons. most involving the fact that sony likes to make money, not throw it away.

There's no reason for them to drop the price. They're already selling like hotcakes and Sony is putting a serious ass-whooping on Nintendo & X-Box this Christmas.

well they are selling for the equivalent of $160 USD in oz at the moment. $229 AUD... that is a huge drop from not very long ago when they were over $330 AUD...
