Files on USB HDD –
06-14-2011,06:10 PM
I have a USB HDD attached to a Wii, which also has a Wasabi installed. The HDD is partitioned into 2, the first being FAT32, but this is just a few GB in size. It contains stuff like USB loader, Wiiflow, etc, the 2nd partition is in NTFS, this contains the game files.
The Wii can see the HDD but doesn't seem to like the NTFS partition, and it won't boot the games from there, they're in a folder called wbfs. I googled the Wiiflow for info and that looks really good but that too says it can't find any games and just opts for allowing me to transfer from DVD to HDD if I want to.
Can't be much adrift, I don't think, I did a dummy run with my old PS3 HDD when I upgraded that, again I formatted the whole drive then in FAT32, that seem to boot the USB loader from the Wii screen OK. But the new drive has come from elsewhere so I'm wondering about this NTFS partition, any help appreciated - I know its a only a Wii, but the kids love it, cheers

To make the Wii read game files from your hdd you must partition it as WBFS not NTFS or FAT32 . keep the FAT32 for the loaders and format the NTFS to WBFS using WBFS manger 3.0

you can have your hard drive at fat32 you will need a wbfs folder on the root of your hdd and your wii games go into that you can either rip your original games to the hard drive using your choice of usb loader or get the iso and create it as wbfs using a game manager like wii game manager and with your hdd being on fat 32 there is a 4gb size limit so you will need to split the game if its over 4gb your usb loader will do it automaticaly or you can use wii game manager to do it when createing the iso to wbfs plus you need to make sure your hard drive is compatable with the wii

i thought that a wassabi chip only let you use burned discs? it is not for homebrew only to unlock your drive to play backups , i dont think you can just use a usb for backups and install homebrew with a chip ,though i could be wrong , i never really looked into wassabi, or do you/does he mean that it has also been softmod too?
just thought of something, what if your on system menu 4.3 and you have a chip that lets you play burned discs, obviously you need a non d2e drive but ,does that mean you could use a burned copy of leggo whatever or SSBB to hack and install HBC?or would you still need an original disc?

what do you mean it wont recognize wbfs? i thought that wiiflow was the best loader now? and do you mean wbfs files that are stored on another partition like fat32 or ntfs, or do you mean it wont recognize a wbfs partition? which version of wiiflow did you try? the latest version? did you try wiihacks and gba temp to try and find a solution?

My apologies for the confusion, what i meant was If you have a WBFS only Harddisk, you would need to repartition it.
That will delete all of your Wii-Games on it
