I need the low down on the Vita scene, help me out!

Completely noob on the vita, ive hardly scene one, however I have a friend who interested in getting one for hacking purposes, so I need to know where is the vita at right now homebrew wise? Whats possible so far, whats not. Can I play vita rips yet? how about psp or psx rips? is there emulators.

how do i hack it?

I need all the info I can get. Maybe I missed the guide post, but I couldnt find any noob guides to the vita scene here yet.

The only hack at the moment is VHBL which isn't really a Vita hack but a PSP hack running within the PSP emulator and the only way to get it is to wait for a new release because it relies on downloaded PSP games which get removed pretty fast after the hack is announced(usually less than a day. Sign up for the /Talk forums at Wololo.net and you might get the name early in what they call a ninja release.
There is no way yet of playing Vita, PSP or PSX backups, all the VHBL lets you run is homebrew like emulators and other apps that work on the PSP but compatibility is never quite 100%.
