    External only, that's what Sel + X is for.

    Select + X is for booting from External to get past black screens.

    There is a small chunk in GameOS memory, which describes the devices connected to your PS3 system. multiMAN changes this 'device table' by renaming selected /dev_usb*** to /dev_bdvd (and /dev_bdvd to /tmp_bdvd if disc is inserted). By doing this the GameOS and games see the external usb hdd as blu-ray game disc and most black-screen-games work.

    Upon next multiMAN start it reverts the changes and everything is back to normal.

    You can't use this approach for games on internal hdd, because such change will invalidate all system files/libraries needed for games to work (/dev_hdd0 will no longer exist).

    @Dean,

    Excuse me if this question is dumb, but is it possible to make a "clone device" of dev_hdd0 (something like dev_blind does for dev_flash) and then mount the cloned device as /dev_bdvd?

    If that is possible, then /dev_hdd0 would exist and sel+x could work on internal hdd...
