I used to have a 3.55 set up with an external and a bunch of games on it, worked great.

I stopped using it for awhile till the new firmwares came out.

I updated to 4.25, and noticed I cannot get any games to launch of my external anymore, once I mount them and try to run, I just get kicked back to the XMB.

Anything internal works, if I take a game that was on the external and copy it to internal, it now works.

This drive used to work fine, I have used it to copy other files to the drive since then that are not PS3 related, could that be the case? Am I going to have to reformat the drive or something?

    Thanks for any help!

Here are things you may try:
Put Legit Game Disc (any) into BD Drive.
    Erase any installed game data.
Only have one USB device plugged in.
Replace any 3.55 patched eboots with originals.

What specific firmware did you install?

    I appreciate the help, but:

    1. I always have disc in drive.
    2. I have not tried this yet for games that have worked but even for first time launches issue occurs.
    3. I have tried this.
    4. My games all have original eboots.

I want to try reformatting the hard drive but its gonna be a huge deal to offload 100GBs of games onto my computer then recopy. But its the only idea I have left. Everything was fine before, and I don't know if copying a bunch of files onto the HDD that were not related to PS3 would cause this...

    Also I am running 4.30 CFW v1.04.

I just tried to run Hitman Absolution with a brand new copy off external but no luck, copied it to internal and its working like a dream.

Wow, nothing? I will see if I can find another external HDD and try that, my 1TB is almost full...I don't even have the computer space to back up all my games to transfer after a format...

If anyone's curious as to how this turned out, I had to clear some space on the external to put on Playstation All Stars for my little brother. As I was cleaning up I decided to just delete all folders unrelated to PS3 games (all the other PC games/PC files I had on there). For the hell of it I tried to launch PS Allstars from external and it worked! No need to reformat. Just needed to delete all the other files. Strange, but its working now! Hopefully this helps others who run into this problem.
