SOUND.BIN, a renamed MP3, must go in the dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/ directory to add background music to multiman. Some have reported a max of 24 MB and some have reported this is false.

Using Multiman 2.00.04 I tried two different MP3 files:
    - 5.21 MB encoded at 192kbps.
    - 1.43 MB encoded at 128kbps (Attached below).

Neither of these worked. Upper/Lower case doesn't make a difference.

I did a quick search and can't find the requirements for this file to make it play as background music within multiman. Has this changed in 2.XX to go in another directory? Multiman can play MP3 files so the audio is working and I have the background audio option enabled in the settings. I've been at this for a while and can't tell what I'm missing so I would appreciate any tips.

I'm dumb, I was using dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/, not dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/. It works there just fine but theme specific BGM is also possible (see second post).

    1) Name a "whatever.mp3" to "SOUND.BIN"

    2) Using either Comgenie's Awesome File Manager or Openbox FTP Server copy SOUND.BIN to your Playstation 3 in the location dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/

Its a shame you can't specify background music for every theme isn't it? I'd love the starwars theme on the new media cabinet for example.

actually you can. in the latest version of multiman the sound.bin was moved in the default theme folder that is under dev_hdd0/game/BLES80608/USRDIR/

    Here is how it is:

    1) SOUND.BIN in /USRDIR folder is used when multiMAN starts
    2) When applying a theme, multiMAN checks if theme has SOUND.BIN. If there is one, it copies it to /USRDIR folder so it becomes default

    That's it.
