Multiman update fails –
02-28-2012,03:44 PM
I couldn't find any post related to this kind of problem, so here it is :
I had a cfw 3.55 ps3 with an old multiman 2.09 on it. I decided to try the update function from multiman. It detected a brand new 4.02 version, downloaded it, and I ran the installation without problem.
Then the 3 copyright screens when running it.
Then the message "applying mmcm original theme"
And then frozen, with a sort of icon in the middle of the screen, but nothing responds, obliged to turn off the console.
I decided that maybe it was because some files were missing from the theme since lots of things probably changed between 2.09 and 4.02, so I downloaded the full package for 4.01 from the forum : exactly the same problem, except the installation is longer because of the size of the file, but it fails exactly the same way.
I tried the fix permission program too : no result.
Ah also I tried to uninstall the 4.02 to be able to install the 4.01, and it failed in the middle of the uninstallation, I now have some broken icon which can't be uninstalled (but I was able to try to install 4.01 after that and this one can be cleanly uninstalled without problem).
I am thinking about trying to downgrade to a very old version again now...
EDIT : indeed, downgrading to 1.12.05 works, I can launch multiman again ! ;-) Oh well, it will serve as a temporary fix until I can find something better then !

I finally found the solution : for some reason it doesn't seem to work on every cfw, but it works on the kmeaw 3.55.
To know if you have the kmeaw or not, just try to execute some unsigned code, like the gaia 2.07 pkg, it will fail with an error on the xmb if you are unable to execute unsigned code.
In this case, download the PS3UPDAT pup for kmeaw, it should have an md5 of 2be5e87a22bf1e7f48e98fcabd38977b
contrary to what most sites say, you can flash it directly, you don't need to flash the original 3.55 fw first (that's what I did, because I was unable to find a working link for the 3.55 fw actually !). But after thinking about it, kmeaw it's just a set of patches applied on the original 3.55 fw, so if you flash it, you flash everything, so no need to flash the original 3.55 first.
Anyway that's what I did, and now it works : below this icon appears a progression bar, and soon after that the gui.
I hope it helps, I had got my ps3 from a shop, they told me it had a cfw 3.55, and it was, but they were unable to tell which cfw it was... !
