Why everyone thinks MultiMan is light years ahead of Gaia? Let me explain:
I 'm just an average user without too much tech knowledge on "lvs" or "pokes" (although I do understand what they do). I used both managers and here is my opinion:

MultiMan has a wonderful UI with all the features anyone would want to not use his PC anymore for file management. BUT (!) I noticed that ALL backup games need an original Blu-Ray disc in the machine to work. I know that that is a small price for what this manager gives you, but if I used my PS3 for, say, 4 hours per day that would be 4 hours per day use of the laser beam... and I 'm not saying it will crash... but what happens if it does? No more backups? What 's the use of MultiMan then? For file management only?

On the other hand, Gaia runs about 90% of all backups and 90% of them WITHOUT any disc in the drive... So, why not use Gaia, if the main reason is to play backups? And it has FTP implemented too. You don't like the interface? Too simple? Why doesn't the developer (don't know the man, haven't spoken to him) implement this in MultiMan? Am I doing something wrong?

To sum up, I currently use MultiMan to play Heavy Rain (because Gaia won't run it) and Gaia (having ejected my original disc) to play F1 2010, Gran Turismo, Buzz World Quiz, Resident Evil 5, Little Big Planet 1 & 2 (last 2 with the disc inside), etc...

I don't want to lower the dev's work on this... I 'm just having these thoughts...
When you're using Multiman, the laser isn't in use while a game is running. Only on the original launch of the game does it check the drive for a disc. Then the game runs from the HD, and the laser disengages.

Yeah, I thought so too, at first...
But, in Heavy Rain, it sounds like it 's firing up every 10 minutes or so, for about 30 seconds... This is what brings me back to my original question: What happens if it dies?

hey bro! i don't want to be rude but as far as our concern, we are all here because we support multiMAN. it's our personal choice, having great looking UI is for our personal consumption. if you want gaia, use it! why don't you try your comments in gaia's threads/posts. peace!

No one seems to want to answer your simple question...

If it dies I guess you either send it to fix or buy a new one...... (guess it's same thing you would have to do if you were playing originals)

This is why I like PS3 Backup Compatibility List - PSHomebrew Most games play just fine without a disk in Multiman. I have tryed 21 games and only 3 need a disk to play. They are MX vs. ATV Reflex, Leisure Suit Larry and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. So if Gaia can play those without a disk then maybe. But all of my games work though multiman or ebootfix so much more then 90%. Check the compatibility list and see if there is any diffence with your games.

There is only 3 possible answers to your question:

    1.Get it fixed.
    2.Buy a new one.
    3.Deal with it.

Notice that dot behind multiMAN. Thats Gaia.

For an average user, Gaia will suffice. You can post your suggestions and comments in the Gaia thread.

If you experience bd-rom activity - rest assured - the PS3 does that once in a while when disc is inserted.

Not to be rude or anything, but I don't see anything to compare Gaia to. Rogero supports tons of options, Open Manager allows you to play games from external 6 months ago, and all other BMs are better than one lacking any support.

Since we now have HERMES clone (IRIS) - I see the lack of abilities from both its "developers" - the lack of imagination and no-ideas-how-to-make-snowflakes-to-"IRIS RULES" or whatever.

I've been attacked countless times on different sites and forums by those gaia/iris "devs" which can't do anything but copy other peoples' work.

    That's about it.
Not only that Dean, but I think (and I think 99.9% of the people here think), that you are one of the best dev's here. I don't think I have ever seen a dev so available to the community, and so into his work, while at the same time answering (quite repetitively) questions, and implementing the communities ideas. There are quite a few devs that put something out and forget about it and move on to the next project. You shouldn't let comments such as these bring you down. Your hard work is appreciated and very commendable. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
