I'm on 3.55 Kmeaw and been having this issue since the 1.X versions.

Multiman CONSTANTLY locks up my system solid. And with the latest 2.0.0.4 version it has gotten really bad. I tried deleting the navigation.txt, options.ini, and USB.CFG files to re-upload them through FTP, but it doesn't work.

Multiman just completely freezes my PS3, after just a few seconds. Sometimes it will work ok for several minutes, sometimes within mere seconds of loading it crashes. Right now I just installed the latest version 2.0.0.4 and since it reset my theme I tried to change it back... I can't even do that! IT FREEZES BEFORE I CAN EVEN GET TO THE THEME CONFIG OPTION!!! I just tried about four or so times in a row. The sparkles in the background stop moving and NO buttons on the controller OR the PS3 respond, not even holding down the power button! I am forced to use the power switch to turn the PS3 off!

*IF* I manage to get a game to load, it will run fine for hours, but that is if Multiman doesn't completely lock up my system solid if I so much as look at it funny before I can start the game.......... and of course I can't do anything else because it can and WILL lock up if I try. It almost seems like staying on the PS3 section of the XMMB stops it from crashing, but trying to move to any other option locks it up. It seems like one way to guarantee to lock it up is to even allow the video tab to try to start loading. (Back before Multiman 2.X if I went to the video/showtime screen it would lock up as well).

    HEEEEEEEEEELP!

    Suggestions:
    - Reinstall Kmeaw. I recommend the package from the PS3 link in my sig.(I always use the Rebug through XMB, then Kmeaw through XMB)
    - Reinstall multiMAN, BDEMU2, and themes. All in the mulitMAN link in my sig.

I have the exact same problem as the TC. Multiman seems to really like locking up when it comes to going into showtime and exiting showtime and going back into multiman. That or when it is scanning for new games/retro games. It can randomly work for hours. Other times, for minutes before freezing and it totally locks up the system.

I want to use MultiMan, not another game manager.

tthousand isn't stating to use a different backup manager. What he stated was to re-install 3.55 KMEAW & then re-install all of the MM stuff.

I would suggest the "Restore File Structure" option from Recovery Menu!

Edit: I've noticed if your file structure get out of whack it will cause slow downs and freezes in both XMB and apps

Sorry your having a tough time with this, I would do both what thousand and bits said, but also add this into it just to be safe.

Download OFW 3.55 and hold down your ps3 button it will beep once then beep again and shut down, do it again and it will beep once then beep three times. Let the button go then because your in recovery mode. Install the Official firmware there. Restart then install Kmeaw 3.55, or Rebug 3.55 (and new patch) Restore file system like bits said, and reinstall BDEMU2, MultiMan, and what ever else you use.

    Now give it a shot.

I would recommend looking for a new hard-drive.
    seems like yours is going.

I constantly test multiMAN (sometimes 10 hours a day), smashing keys, changing display modes, transferring stuff via ftp and filemanager at the same time, playing music, switching to emulators and showtime, having one external USB HDD and USB flash-stick connected.

It hasn't locked a single time for me.

I am inclined to agree with condorstrike on this. Both kmeaw and multiman has always been rock solid for me. Never had a lock up of any kind. You could try taking out your hdd and hooking it up to a pc to troubleshoot. Format it on pc maybe even scan it for bad clusters. I am not sure if when the ps3 formats it, when you put it back in, it may open any marked bad clusters by the pc for use again. If you do try any of this make sure you back up any data you want to keep on it first.
