The fact that you get past the initial disclaimers means that the install has been accepted by the PS3 (so no CRC errors there), but the fact that it then crashes out to XMB obviously means that something is badly wrong. However, since multiMAN is no longer released with any base package I suspect that you may have used a much older version of multiMAN earlier (one that was released with a base package) and then updated to a much later version (probably the latest v02.03.00). For such cases one probable cause of the problem would be if you had an old "options_default.ini" file in the root of the USB drive while installing the package. That could cause a configuration problem as multiMAN attempts to re-evaluate such a file at each startup with such a file present, and the old INI files contain a lot of junk no longer relevant to the new multiMAN versions.
One way to fix this would be to use a copy of the latest "options_default.ini" file, extracted from the "multiMAN ver 02.03.00 FULL (20110717-170000).rar" release, placing that "options_default.ini" file on your USB drive and have this connected to your PS3 while attempting to restart multiMAN. According to specs, this should clean out any old "options.ini" file and create a new one based on the new defaults.
A more extreme solution, if the above doesn't work for some reason, would be to remove the multiMAN package entirely, and start over from scratch.
As long as you've had your games installed into some folder that is not part of the multiMAN package ("/dev_hdd0/GAMES/" is ideal and multiMAN's default choice), there should be no danger to the games.

If you check the first page of MM main thread , Dean has been releasing the Base Version recently.
And if you check that page again you will find that Dean only mentions the 'Base' version, but does not provide any download link for it.
If Dean really has decided to release 'Base' packages again, then he is inconsistent about making the packages available.
A mention without any download link does not constitute a release by my definitions. And there certainly is no way to install a mere 'mention'.
And considering how dead set Dean seemed to be against continuing with 'Base' packages, the last time he discussed it here, I would be quite surprised if he changed his mind about it now. The arguments he then mentioned remain as valid today as they were then, as it takes a lot of extra time and effort for him to prepare a double set of download archives and upload them to multiple servers each time he is to make a new release. Considering how many releases he has made so far, it all adds up to considerable amounts of time and effort. So halving that work was a very sensible choice.

I don't use Base, so I admit I based my comment on the 'Link' that Dean provided. When I clicked on that 'link' it does confirm that my presumption was wrong.
@Tamrat, There really hasn't been that many new changes to the manager to force you to update to the latest version. Just a thought.
But if you could download the FULL version, it would be great for you to install it, since it seems that one keeps getting new updates before the next major release.

Not just the next version. It already applies to the current version.
There is no base release of multiMAN v02.03.00 available for download. At least not any download provided by Dean.
The decision is up to Dean, and his latest statement on this issue is that preparing and releasing several different versions and packages each time wastes too much of his time. So he has decided to stop releasing the 3.55-specific packages as well as the base packages.oh no, that means I can't get past v2.03.00 cuz internet costs are high here and I can't download anything with >50mb of space. c'mon, WE need these base versions.
But he also stated that others who want to redistribute his stuff in those other forms are free to unpack and repackage his materials in order to do so.
And I guess that would be your best chance to get hold of a smaller package, if someone else repacks a release after removing game cover files (appx 50 MB of the total 73MB RAR download size ).
