MM File Manger creates "hidden" folders... and how to fix it.
MM File Manger creates "hidden" folders... and how to fix it. –

Today, I was transferring some pictures from one external HDD to a USB stick using MM's File Manger. I had created a folder named: PICTURE in my USB stick with MM's File Manger. I then transferred some of the pictures into this folder from another external HDD. After I finished, I inserted the USB stick in my PC, but I could not find the folder. It was on the root of the memory stick, but it wasn't there. I then put the USB stick back on my PS3 and I could see the folder with either MM's File Manager or Showtime Player.
I then tried to troubleshoot it. In windows I did a search for a picture, I did find it. Once I clicked to see the parent of this picture, I saw the properties of the folder and it was set to Hidden and the box was checked and grayed out. So somehow MM"s File Manger set it as a system folder or something.
I then recalled this CMD sequence in order to unhide a folder (because Windows Folder Options could not show the hidden folder). So here is the CMD sequence if you guys ever get this strange issue.
- go to RUN
- type in cmd and press OK
- enter this cmd sequence: attrib -s -h [drive] [path] [filename] --
for example: attrib -s -h G:\PICTURE -- then press enter and you should be able to see the hidden folder that MM created with File Manager.

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options. (Or alt extra/options in my documents)
Click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings, click "Show hidden files and folders", and then click OK.
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
I think you forgot to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".

You are probably correct.
But the main point of this thread should be to bring to Dean's attention that the current file copying routines must be bugged, if they create such abnormal file attributes when copying normal picture files. (Or any other file for that matter, which did not originally have such attributes.)
If that really happens then it is a BUG, and should be reported as such.

@Bayron, Thanks for that tip. I'll try that when this happens to me again.
@dlanor, it never occurred to me that this would be a bug, but you may be right. Hopefully deank can look into it.
Bonus: Once I was able to unhide the folder, when I connected the USB stick back to the PS3 and view the files with MM. When I then connected the USB stick back to my PC, it was hidden again. I had to do the above procedure to unhide it (Bayron--I still did my old way, I didn't read your suggestion until after I did this). I then deleted the folder in Windows, once it was unhidden. I decided to reformat the USB stick, but I may test this again, to see if I can make it happen again.
Please Test: Let's see if you guys can test this bug and verify it. Just connect a USB stick into your PS3. Go into MM's file manager and create a new folder named PICTURE. Copy some pictures into this new folder. Then connect your USB stick to your computer and check if it shows the folder hidden. Please note, this folder needs to be created by MM's file manager. It will not work, if you created this folder in Windows.

In fact, I've heard some rumors that Dean has abandoned MM project. That's so bad, because he is such a talented developer
