how to copy games from pc to ps3 over lan? –

Greetings
I've read that Multiman has an ftp tool.
I don't have an external hdd yet.
How do I copy a game from my pc to ps3 using my LAN? or backup from ps3 to pc please?
and I'm using ubuntu, or must I do this from Wndows?
In my laptop I use Fireftp (a firefox extension)
I tried connecting to my ps3, using the ip showing on ps3 screen, but connection failed.
Do I have to do some setup in the ps3 Muliman first?
Do I connect as anonymous or is there some specific username/password?
I failed to find how to get to the ftp tool in Multiman..
Please help.. many thanks.

Thanks, but can I just use Multiman?
I've read that Multiman will not allow you to accidentally tamper with important ps3 folders.
Hopefully someone help me with Multiman FTP how-to

You have read that MM has an FTP Tool, but you don't bother to try to find it yourself.
I don't use MM FTP , but yet it took me less than 10 seconds to find the FTP option by going to MM Settings using System Menu.

Look I'll help you out.
1. First download Filezilla, you can find in on google.
2. Install it on your computer and then open multiman
3. On multiman keep switching screens with L1 and R1 until you reach the screen that has an IP adress at the bottom.
4. Open Filezilla and enter that IP adress onto Filezilla and connect. No, you dont need to insert a username and password. just connect.
5. Next open dev_hdd0/Game/ folder and pass over your game. Your game should have a folder starting with BLU or BLES or something like that. put that folder in there.
If you need for help just post it on here and ill help you out.

I can't understand why everyone keeps focusing on FTP for LAN transfers.
Have you all forgotten about the HOST server ?
(I mean the one in "ps3serv_GUI.rar".)
That is a special server for PCs, which can be used to access a PC folder from the multiMAN File Manager, using a pseudo device named "net_host0" that you've defined in the options.ini configuration file of multiMAN. (In fact you are allowed to define multiple such servers.)
I tried it just now with a fairly small game, Disgaea3 which is only appx 2157MBytes.
This transferred from my main PC to the PS3 HDD in almost exactly 5 minutes flat (+/- maybe 2 seconds). This means that the transfer took appx 300 seconds and sustained an average transfer rate of 7.19 MBytes per second or 57.52 MBits/second, which is pretty good for a 100MBit/second LAN with other ongoing traffic (mainly torrent seeding).
I don't know about others, but I know for sure that I am unable to get similar speed with FTP.
So when I need to transfer stuff from my PCs to the PS3 over LAN, it is always the 'net_host' method I choose to do it with.
If you try it, just don't be too 'greedy' in the choice of fileshare folder, and never choose the root of a well filled HDD to be shared this way. The reason for that rule is simply that when you open a net_host pseudo device in the MM File Manager, it will need to scan the fileshare folder for its contents, including all content of all subfolders too, in order to build a proper directory cache (I assume). So with unreasonably large amounts of content (like your C: root) you could be waiting a very long time...
In fact the same type of scanning is also done by the server when you tell it what folder to share, so that is the first delay of this kind you will see, though it will be shorter than the one you'd get on the PS3 later, since the server can access the folder locally. But if you keep your net_host fileshare folders to reasonable amounts of data it is not a problem.
Best regards: dlanor
