i have xp. What forma is it suppused to be? do i hvae to make folders for my movies or just drag and drop the mp4 to the ext and hook up to ps3 - open showtime and it will work?
I use a NAS to play back my Media from. I can pretty much play what I want from my NAS as long as it ISN'T Hi10p.
Then again just checking like 90% of my stuff is in the *.mkv format. I do have One Anime called Madoka Magica that IS in *.MP4 though, and I'm not in front of the PS3 at the moment. And I can't recall if I was able to play it Stock. I'm thinking not.
However, this Show being in *.MP4 is probably like the only One that I could Play on my Phone without needing to use a different (i.e. better player). Again have you actually tried to play this on your PC / Phone? If those sources don't work its little wonder why it isn't working over there.
Like I said in the case of my NAS Software (e.g. Mediatomb) I had to alter a *.xml File to add both *.MP4 as an Audio and, a Video Container. As Mediatomb would otherwise just assume that it was a pure Audio File. THUS change the extension to *.M4V to flag it as a Video. So that Showtime (or whatever), knows how to open that File.
So yes you can almost be 99.999% sure that you can play *.AVIs back. Even though the Stock Player. Those were the ONLY TYPE of Files that ever did play in S0NYs Player.
Like I said your problem was the fact that *.MP4 was an Audio File Type, long before it was also used as a Video Container. Unless your Player otherwise understand that, (it would seem that Showtime doesn't!), the Player will likely treat it mistakenly as an Audio File. Changing the Extension, to *.M4V does not alter your File in anyway its still an *.MP4. The only difference now is the Player is damned sure that, that is a Video File, and not just an Audio only One.
