Help running games from external
Help running games from external –
07-06-2011,04:59 PM
I put all my games on my external drive, running 3.55 Kmeaw and use MultiMan 2.01.00.
I've a few games on the external that are greyed out with text in orange, noting that the games are split. I'm a bit confused as to how to run these using MultiMan 2.01.00. I've tried pressing X on the game in MultiMan to load the games and it says it needs to install data on internal drive, which I tell it to do. I have also tried with and without installing game updates. When I press X, it goes back to the official XMB. The game then appears under the Game menu under PS3_GAME. When I select it it looks like it begins to load up and then just goes back to the XMB. I've also tried choosing Select+X on the game in MultiMan.
In MultiMan, I've also tried to use "move" within the file manager to move the game to the PS3's internal drive, but the game is then not recognised by MultiMan and I realised on the PS3's internal drive, it's not moved to the game or GAMES folders but instead to the root of the drive for some reason.
Anyone able to help?
The main game I've tried so far is Killzone 2, but I also got other that are greyed out saying games are split like Resistance, Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, L.A. Noire etc.

I think what your problem is... is you aren't using the hermes payload. Go into MM on the XMB style display and go to settings and change the payload used to Hermes. You may have to download the newer BDEMU2 pkg and install if hermes isn't an option yet. Google is your friend there. Once installed and the setting is changexd you may have to restart MM/console don't remember. Then load the game like you tried and it will install ther cache to internal before it exits to main XMB to play.
BEWARE you may have to remount the game (reenter MM and select the game again) for the game to play. Dunno if the issue still exists but before MM would have mounted the game before the cache copied and it wouldn't play right off.
NOTE some games can be played completely on external like resistance that you mentioned can be broken up using a PSARC extractor. Non-PSARC files are OOL

About the Move problem, it's your error because you didn't set your destination pane correctly.
When you are copying or moving files, make sure you set the Source (Left pane) and Destination (Right Pane) correctly before confirming your Copy/Move.

The info Jay-Jay linked to is of course recommended reading for anyone wanting to use NTFS with multiMAN.
But even so a quicker reply is also possible:
If you want to run games directly off the external drive, then it MUST use FAT32.
Games on an NTFS drive can only be run by first copying the entire game, every single byte of it, to the internal HDD.
Doing this for various games gets real boring, real fast, and kind of negates the basic purpose of using an external drive.
(to save space on the internal HDD)
