Games keep returning to XMB

Hi everyone. I know this seems to be a fairly common problem but any of the fixes that I've found haven't worked for me. I've transferred games to the internal hdd using ftp, set "bd mirror" and "internal", loaded back to xmb then when I click on the changed disc icon in xmb it just returns to the xmb. It does exactly the same thing when I try to load games from an external hdd.

Any suggestions? This is my third day straight working on my little bros PS3. Fixed YLOD, fixed RSOD, rescued data and now can't get the games to load

Any help is much appreciated.

p.s. it might be worth noting that I'm on rogero 4.30 and multiman 4.18
