Copy Movies To XMB –
I've been searching for like an hour for this answer, so hopefully somebody knows. :/
I have a PS3 with a 750GB hard drive in it. My room mate also has a PS3, and since I never play mine, I want to give mine to my dad. (He's hates video games, but he loves watching movies/Blu-rays.) So I'm going to copy over my movie collection to my PS3 before giving it to him. The problem is, it's 600GB+ of movies on an NTFS drive. I know that I can copy files from an NTFS drive. I'm up and running with that. But it's been a long time since I used my PS3 (or Multiman), and last I remember, I couldn't copy movies to the PS3 hard drive and have them available in the XMB menu.
So my question is, has that changed? If so, how can I do it? My dad is 100% computer illiterate. He can learn something simple (like the PS3), but it'll take me 2 weeks to teach him. So I'm definitely NOT looking to use any sort of homebrew to view the movies (don't even suggest it). They NEED to be available through the XMB.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully I won't have to do it the slow way over the network. :/
You can copy movies to your XMB from a fat/32 drive - the ps3's xmb cannot read an NTFS drive. You would have to back up your 600+gb HDD and reformat it for the ps3 to be able to read/copy movies to it.
Or you could set up PS3 Media Server and stream your movies from your PC to the PS3 (Not a homebrew BTW)
Even tho you say it's out of the question - Showtime media player is a very nice and clean easy to use homebrew that will read your NTFS drive - Showtime is very easy to use and pretty self explanatory your dad should have no problem if you show him the ropes.

That's what I feared, unfortunately. I have my NTFS drive connected to my Macbook and my Macbook and PS3 linked with an ethernet cable. It's copying fairly quickly. (It takes a little over a minute to copy a 700MB movie.)
Check your drive for files larger than 4 gb. If there are none just convert NTFS to FAT32 using a hard drive tool like Paragon Partition Manager. I've got the paid version of it and switch back and forth regularly without problems. I think there's a free/demo version or you may have to look around but there are tools out there
Fiery the angels fell. Deep thunder rolled around their shoulders... burning with the fires of Orc.
Maybe you wanna try Filezila trick...
It also transfer your files larger than 4gb+
Here quick tutorial...
1. Add a network to your Ps3 (Wired 2x faster than wireless)
2. Open Multiman & check options for FTP connection.
3. Go to Multiman System Info and note your Ps3's IP Address.
4. Open Filezila on your PC and set the connection :
Server : (Your Ps3's IP)
Username : FTPD12345 (or any 4 letter and 5 number)
Password : 12345
Port : 21
-Then click the quick connect. Now youre gonna see your Ps3's internal hdd.
5. Find the HOME/Video section and copy your movies there.
*I can't remember where is the Home section is right now.
But definetely there is. Maybe on HDD0 part...
My Ps3 in off and I can't check it for now.
If you having any problem just wrote here...
