CFW + Multiman Does it need a boot disc

Is a boot disc required all the time when using CFW with Multiman. Obviously I would just stick a disc in and try but have lent my retail copies to a friend. OR is it the same as 3.41 and only needed on certain games?

is more compatible with disc in drive, any disc, even a demo.

3.55 does not allow modified files that are needed for 3.41.
