One of the key files on your PS3 is the xRegistry.sys it contains alot of your important run-time settings and custom XMB setup, and you should always keep a backup handly incase you need to restore your PS3 console without losing your "downloaded content", now along comes Cyberskunk, from Team Rebug with a handly tool to do just that!

DISCLAMER : This software can be used to enable LEGALLY obtained DLC (downloaded content) if your console has become deactivated. It contains NO ‘Official SCE’ code and was made using open source SDK psl1ght. The responsibility IS on the end-user to use this software in accordance with his/her own country’s/region’s copyright laws.

xReg Plus is a simple app that will allow you to backup and restore your xRegistry.sys file to/from USB. Good for instantly restoring your settings and access to your save data again after a Service Mode install.

1: Press SELECT to BACKUP xRegistry.sys to root of USB000
2: Press START to RESTORE xRegistry.sys from root of USB000

    Also includes Activation Reviver.

You must have a backup of your act.dat file and the exdata folder must already exist in dev_hdd0/home/00000001/ (Currently that is the only address it copies to).

    How it works..

1: Place act.dat onto root of USB stick and place in USB000 (slot furthest right)
2: Press CIRCLE to TRANSFER act.dat to xReg Plus (XREG00001/USRDIR) from USB
3: Press CROSS to RESTORE act.dat to PS3 exdata directory

Once this is done you only have to use step 3 each time you reboot and want to play DLC.

    Enjoy.. Cyberskunk

Big thanks to jjolanofor helping with the XMB Selector for the upcoming Rebug release which this is based off

This is great and all but couldn't we do this manually already? I mean I got all my DLC from my legit deck to work on my modded deck using the act.dat but have to re do it every time I want to use my DLC. Am I missing something here?

Try using OpenBox 1.3 to set the permissions on act.dat to Read only. Then the PS3 can't delete it.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried it, but it should work. I used it to make my pushlist/boothistory read only so the PS3 can't change it. :P

I'm about to put CFW to a PS3 (Firmware 3.42), this ps3 has a lot of DLC (rockband), right now I'm going to back up the data (changing HDD), will this work with the new hdd with restored data?

Just make sure you back up everything xreg and act.dat and you should be good to go.

Ok Cyberskunk or Evilsprem maybe you could help. I got this up and running and it will backup the xRegistry.sys just fine to usb000 but once I use the Activation Restore option it fails every time. Any ideas on how to fix this. I have run the fix permissions pkg (though I know it was pointless but never hurts to try) and even tried running a lv2 patcher before hand and still no dice.

    EDIT

3: Press CROSS to RESTORE act.dat to PS3 exdata directory

You need to tranfer act.dat to the xReg Plus USRDIR before you can restore it to the exdata folder. The app will not create an exdata folder. My reasoning for this is if you don't have the exdata folder on the PS3 there is no need to activate for DLC.

It will fail if either the act.dat is not in the xReg Plus USRDIR or the exdata folder doesn't exist.

xReg Plus does not do anything that we haven't been able to do manually, it just automates some otherwise tedious tasks like re-entering your settings (It will restore them all with your xRegistry.sys file) and of course restoring your act.dat file without the use of a file manager..

Got it didn't realize I needed to create the folder on the usb stick I missed that part. I have created the folder and it works great. I also knew we could do this manually as I have been doing it on this deck for quite sometime as my red dead content won't work otherwise. Thanks for the great work on the cfw front and know this neat little app is appreciated as well.
