    I'm trying to use one of the feature of the debug firmware, the BD emulation tool, to overcome my broken bluray player.

    If you're on Rebug you should install the Rebug Selector and switch to menu 2.
    After that you should go to Settings > Debug Settings > Blu-ray Disk Access and set it to BD emulator (USB)

    After that you should have "PS3.BluRay.Disk.Generator.and.System.File.Edi tor-FF" and, precisely, the Disc Image Creator for playstation (R) 3.

    This tool let you build an image and write it to an external usb hdd which could be used with the blu-ray disk access.
    The problem I've found so far, is that I can't select any external usb hdd from the program (but I've been able to generate a .emu file from it)

    Does anybody know how to burn the image to an usb hdd?

    I hope that after having loaded a nearly empty image we could fake the blu-ray check and launch the titles which need a disc inserted to be run.

    @Frullo

    You have to first use the ps3 to format your fat32 usb hdd into a BD Emulator hdd, there should be an option somewhere in the xmb for this function, at least there is on real debug consoles. Then the Disc Image Generator for playstation (R) 3 will be able to write to it.

    I tried this just now, using a fat32 drive and tried to format it using "Format BD Emulator HDD" on both 3.55.1 and 3.41.2, neither worked. I keep getting an error code of 8001002D, whether it's full or quick format.

    Anybody else getting this error?

    @butnut: thank you for this suggestion

    @Mistawes:
    Yes, I got the same error..

    Maybe we could find another way to format it from a pc.. I wonder if the formatted usb drive contains information about the ps3 who formatted the disk

    A similar restriction couldn't be bypassed without fixing rebug first.

    That is because the BDEMU is one of the features that is not working yet but the team is working on it.. The goal of Rebug is hopefully get ALL the features running.. This of course will take time (and money for hardware) of which I have none at the moment..
