Two of our valued PSX-SCENE developers Evilsperm and Cyberskunk have finally released their REBUG for the PS3!

The goal of this wonderful package called REBUG is to convert a RETAIL PS3 Console into basically a full Sony DEBUG/TEST machine with all the features that developers have at their fingertips to use, that are hidden away from normal stock end-user PS3 consoles!

Recently the team has made enough progress to be able to officialy launch a fully stable BETA release for everyone to enjoy on their PS3 Consoles!

    Q) Does it need to be 'Jailbroken'

    A) Yes. It has it's own payload. But not to use the 'Debug Settings' menu. That is always available.

I have finally decided that Rebug 3.41E is in good enough shape for a beta release so here it is.

At the moment it has all 'Retail PS3' features running except PSN. So installing Rebug 3.41E will not break anything infact you can play your original PS1 games in JB mode and unlike most Debug/Retail hybrids in the past this has functional BD playback (Same as usual though, not in JB mode)..

As far as the Debug functions go you have two seperate 'Debug Settings' menus to choose from (As long as you are in JB mode you can swap between them using file manager without restarting) with most of the options working (None of the really good ones yet). But you now have XMB acces to all those xRegistry.sys switches..

Also at anytime if you decide you don't like Rebug 3.41E you can install 'Retail 3.41' through the XMB without any problems..

Rebug 3.41E is stable. It does not crash randomly or for no reason. It has no bugs that I know of at the moment. It does however need lots more work getting the rest of the debug options up and running.

There are a few things close to going into Rebug 3.41E but would have messed with the stability for now so they will hopefully be in the next release. Like BD playback in JB mode (Crashes randomly at the moment so it was left out) and an app to swap the 'Debug Settings' menus..

I will try to keep on top of it and evolve Rebug with the scene..

    I hope you like it.

    Cyberskunk..
Attached is the special Hermes (you can find other types on their site!) Jailbreak Dongle payload that you need to run their amazing feat in reprogramming your PS3 console, but since the Rebug package is 131mb to download, here is off-site links:

Rebug's end goal is to have the full set of Retail and TEST (Debug) features running on a retail PS3..

It is in it's infancy at the moment but it runs well with all of the retail features intact and it has two different seperate 'Debug Settings' menus which give access to all of those previously unobtainable settings in the xRegistry.sys file. The tutorial explains how to swap between them.

Rebug uses a Retail 3.41 COREOS to run but it is NOT Retail 3.41 and doesn't require any XMB patching(category_game_tool2.xml) which also plays a part in being able to run the PS1 titles in JB mode and the reason it has it's own PL3 and Hermes payloads..

Behind closed doors I've been able to trigger some of the more serious debug features but without stable enough results to include in a release.Only armed with the knowledge the same as everybody else on how a TEST machine is 'supposed' to operate there has been a lot of guess work and sleepless nights. With a TEST machine to take dumps from and compare with Rebug, solutions to these problems would be so much easier to find..

Lastly, about the PSN access. The video and pics were to show that we had access to the PSN network and at the time I had no intention of releasing a Rebug Beta so soon. Understand that leaving it out was not to hold back on you guys but because at the moment it is useless. You can chat and activate your PS3 but you have to use a Quick Signup ID and the loss of the access before it is even working properly with everyone trying out the Quick Signup then finding out they can't do anything would be stupid of me. I'd think most would agree..

So enjoy Rebug, It has no need to be uninstalled as it functions as a full retail PS3 but if you decide you want your Retail 3.41 firmware back just update it with the Retail 3.41 PUP using the XMB. No data lost..

Excellent and surprising release (didn't expect it JUST yet!).

I'm a PIC and iPhone user. I want to run the Hermes flavour on my PIC. Would it work using the payload converter programs that popped up a few months ago, or shall I just not bother?

    -rebug_hermes_pl3_payload_bins.rar For for Ti/Android/PIC users

There is nothing for the IPhone, but what about the PIC? The closest thing I have to a PIC is a ps3break.com. I know nothing about how to get those bins converted into hexs. Cyberskunk or evilsperm?

I think you mean there is no PIC but iPhone? I'll install these over the service mode .bins which are on my iPhone atm.

This is great timing. I downgraded my PS3 last night (was playing GT5 , and lost my save ) round my friend's house to show the USB exploit off to them

I know you have, several times, said "PSGroove 1.1" -- but is there any chance ReBug would work with the payload I'm using in my sig? Hermes 4B with your fixes?

Thanks guys! I can't believe how fast this was released

It'll work. It means derivatives of 1.1 which are basically everything Hermes V2 and beyond.
