I am also a child of the 80's, my first was the ATARI 800XL, before "upgrading" :lol: to a C64. They were great days apart from the loading times....... But then again if you waited anything from 10 mins to an hour for a game to load from a tape then you ALWAYS gave it a good play even if it was crap, something that doesnt happen nowadays with "almost instant" disc loading. Strage enough i miss those days :lol:

You and I both, my friend! The C64 was my absolute favourite computer of all time, some of my fondest memories of childhood involve that gloriously huge breadbox of fun XD The graphics may not have been the best in the world (though even for the time they were still incredible) - but it was the SID chip that made that machine so awesome. Absolutely incredible audio ^_^ My mum is as big a gamer as I am, the C64 was HERS as a matter of fact, and she taught me the "joys" of POT tweaking the datasette with a tiny screwdriver in order to get some problematic games to load :lol:

Speaking of loading times; Remember Invade-a-Load? :D "Just when you thought it was safe to go get a cup of tea... INVADE-A-LOAD!" Usually you'd do just that; go off and make a cup of tea whilst waiting for the game to load - but Mastertronic incorporated a Space Invaders minigame INTO the loading process (an idea later stolen by Namco for their Ridge Racer/Soul Edge-Calibur/Tekken games) :D

Good times.

Loved the C64 and was a big step up from an old TI machine i had originally. Although the Binatone predated it :)
I remember sitting in awe when i first loaded up Impossible Mission and heard those immortal words

Still got it as well, and bought a Commodore 128 this year as well (a souped-up C64).

No offence Gary, loved the machine when i got it and it was my introduction to home computers. Then the natural progression happened with C64/Speccy/Amiga/386/etc

The C64 file formats list

Disk images load quicker than cassette images,
I myself extract the .PRG, .P00 files out of them with DirMaster if possible for pure speed alot of them already include speed loaders and trainers though.

lol all we need is some prune juice & someone to share stories of growing up and coding on the abacus :p

I feel old when I think thats its been over a quarter of a century since I first touched one of these.
